FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dallas Executive to Explain How the New Project Management Standard (OPM3tm) Helps Companies Respond to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

David J. Lanners, Executive Consultant and President of LCS International, Inc. will explain in a public presentation on February 12, 2004 in Dallas, Texas how the new Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3tm) standard from the 100,000-member non-profit Project Management Institute is an important step forward in responding to internal control requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.

In the wake of corporate scandals involving some of America’s largest companies, Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to encourage executives to establish and maintain adequate internal control structures for financial reporting.  Section 404 of the Act also requires an annual assessment of those structures.

As project expenditures make up a large and ever-increasing share of organization budgets, the new OPM3 standard offers much needed help in dealing with project and program management.  Developed over a five-year period by more than 700 volunteers from 35 countries, the new standard describes thousands of capabilities and almost 600 best practices for enterprise project management support.

Lanners:  “With much of our economy being driven by project-related work, we all benefit from having standards that help us learn from acknowledged best practices.”

The purpose of the standard is to help organizations understand and appreciate organizational project management maturity and its value in the execution of organizational strategy.  The standard guides organizations in the assessment of their current state of organizational project management maturity and in their efforts to develop essential capabilities.

Lanners was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma national business honor society and holds eight certifications from five professional societies.  He is a member of Mensa and Intertel, and he received a B.S.B. degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A. degree from Harvard.

As an executive consultant, Lanners specializes in helping senior executives and business owners build successful project-driven organizations.  He has refined his skills through more than two decades of delivering executive consulting services.  He also serves on the Industry Advisory Council for SMU’s School of Engineering and on the Dallas Program Advisory Board for LeTourneau University.
